Tesco announces new store rules on how you must shop in it's supermarkets - all you need to know
While it may not feel like it, Christmas is just around the corner.
The ongoing pandemic in the UK has left many of us with little to feel excited about, but the festive period and all the glorious food it brings is definitely something to look forward to.
While the crisis has changed all aspects of every day life, including the way we shop, that hasn't stopped the supermarkets going all out, with many already releasing their Christmas store offerings for 2020.
So if you're eyeing up Christmas puddings and turkey crowns in preparation for this year, you may be wondering how early you should book a supermarket delivery slot.
So when do Christmas delivery slots open for 2020? Here's what Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Asda and Waitrose have said.
Sainsbury's
It's not yet been confirmed when delivery slots for Christmas will open at Sainsbury's but the supermarket will update shoppers through its Christmas Delivery Guide online.
Customers will have to log onto their Groceries Online account to find out the dates.
The option to collect in store is already available, however. Customers just need to select a store and date, choose their items, pay a deposit and collect in-store on December 22, 23, or 24 at a chosen time.
Tesco’s Christmas delivery slots opened on 13 November for people on its delivery saver scheme, and are now available to everyone. Deliveries cost between £4.50 and £5.50, or you can choose to.

The Tesco Delivery Saver Plan is a subscription service which allows you to receive a discount on your Tesco food deliveries. Signing up can lead to big savings over the course of the year.
As a working family with three children, I always use home deliveries from supermarkets, I find it so much easier! It’s far less stressful to sit down once a week, plan out our meals and then just order the whole lot online. Dragging the kids round the supermarket is definitely NOT the way I like to spend my weekends!
What is the Tesco Delivery Saver Plan?
Tesco offer a subscription delivery service, and if you spend at least £40 on at least two shops per month on your Tesco delivery, then signing up to this will save you money. Signing up to this service will give you as many deliveries as you like each month, priority access to Christmas delivery slots, free Click&Collect slots and you will still be able to collect Tesco clubcard points as you usually would!
Tesco Delivery Saver Plan Free Trial
Tesco offer a free month’s trial of their Delivery Saver Plan which is a great way to try it out, see how it works and see how much money you can save. You can trial the service without making a payment for the first month, then, if you decide it’s not for you, you can cancel no questions asked.
At the time of writing, the free trial and new subscriptions to the saver plan have been paused in order to help Tesco to cope with the added demand caused by the global pandemic Covid-19. Customers with an existing Delivery Saver Plan are not affected, if you’re already signed up then your account with carry on as normal.
How much does it cost?
There are various plans available, and the costs vary depending on which one you choose. They will all save you money though.
It makes sense that the cheapest delivery plan is the Midweek option. If you’re happy to start your meal plan midweek, then this is a real money saver. However, even the most expensive plans will still save you money if you use the plan rather than pay a delivery charge each time you shop.
Tesco Delivery Saver Plan Restrictions
The only real restriction is that you must spend a minimum of £40 in order for your delivery to be “free” as part of the saver plan. If your shopping falls below the £40 threshold, you’ll be charged an extra delivery fee, so make sure you bear that in mind! Don’t worry if you have out of stock items or substitutes which bring the total of your shop to less than £40 when your shopping arrives. This is obviously out of your control and Tesco won’t charge you any extra for the delivery.
Delivery Saver Guarantee
If, for any reason, signing up to the delivery plan doesn’t actually save you money, then Tesco will issue a refund after you’ve been subscribed for a year.
Tesco will work out how much you’ve spent on your delivery plan over the course of the year and compare it with what you would have spent if you’d paid for each delivery individually. If you’re out of pocket, they will issue an e-voucher for the difference which you will be able to redeem on Tesco.com.
Tesco will do this automatically at the end of the year, you don’t need to worry about contacting them. They will do the calculations and contact you within 21 days.
The guarantee is a great way to make sure you really are getting value for money and gives a little peace of mind that you’re being savvy with your shopping!
Tesco Clubcard Points
One of the great things about shopping at Tesco is the clubcard points! Whenever you shop at Tesco, you can earn clubcard points which you can then use to get money off future shops or save up and use towards experiences.
You earn clubcard points on purchases from Tesco.com and you’ll also earn extra points on your Delivery Saver payments too.
What’s more, you can save up your points throughout the year and use them towards your Delivery Saver Plan payments, saving you even more money!
Priority Christmas Shopping Slots
I ALWAYS get my Christmas food shopping delivered. It’s so much easier than fighting your way around the supermarket with everybody pushing, shoving and elbowing to get to the turkeys and the Brussel sprouts! It can be tricky to bag a delivery slot around the Christmas period though, as everybody seems to have the same idea!
If you’re signed up to the Tesco Delivery Saver Plan, then you’ll get priority access to Tesco’s Christmas delivery slots. This is worth it’s weight in gold as far as I’m concerned!
Tesco will send an email out to all plan holders before the Christmas delivery slots are opened up to the general public. You will then be able to log in and place your Christmas food shop before the rest of the world tries to do the same!
You’ll also be able to do the same thing for the Easter delivery slots too!
